    Field Guide

    Job Advert Summary    

    • We are looking for a dedicated, committed, hardworking, passionate Field Guide for a work opportunity in The Great Karoo close to Graaff Reinet. It is a very good opportunity as the guide will not only guide but will be involved with reserve work and assist with research in the conservation field.

    Minimum Requirements    

    • FGASA Level 1/2 - (Theory and Practical completed) Trails Guide
    • SASSETA rifle competency certificate and government certificate
    • Valid NDT registration
    • Valid PDP license
    • Valid First Aid certificate
    • Previous experience as Field Guide or in similar research and monitoring environment will be an advantage
    • Computer literacy skills including Excel, Word, Power point, Mapping programme
    • Fluent in English and Afrikaans spoken and written
    • Positive, passionate attitude and sense of responsibility.

    Other skills/experience required:

    • 4x4 and off-road driving experience.
    • Ability to work in a team where both team and own responsibilities must be carried out.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Excellent organization skills, punctuality, commitment, and precision
    • Pro-activity, self-motivation, flexibility

    Duties and Responsibilities    

    • Conduct game drives to provide guests with educational and enjoyable wildlife viewing experiences.
    • Lead bush walks, ensuring guest safety while delivering informative commentary on flora and fauna.
    • Host guests professionally, facilitating a welcoming and comfortable environment throughout their visit.
    • Collect and record relevant data systematically to support conservation and operational objectives.
    • Assist in the preparation and submission of comprehensive weekly and monthly reports.
    • Support reserve and general maintenance activities to uphold the quality and safety of the facility.
    • Deliver engaging and informative presentations or talks to guests, enhancing their understanding of the reserve.
    • Assist with monitoring high-profile species, contributing to conservation and security efforts.
    • Participate in security measures and full moon patrols to ensure guest and wildlife safety.
    • Demonstrate flexibility by offering assistance across various departments as needed.
