Field Service Technician at Xylem Inc.

JOB OBJECTIVE

The Purpose of the position is to do all service work, strip, overhaul and repair, test and inspect Xylem and associated companies’ pumps and products, consistent with Standards and established procedures to meet customers’ requirements. Furthermore, this person will be expected to do Service work in the Workshop and from time to time at the customers’ site.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
 

• Carry out Millwright jobs and emergency work on pumps and associated equipment .

• Prepare reports.

• Provide quotations to manager for cost of repairs.

• Inspect and test products prior to dispatch to customers.

• Maintain written records for future reference and to comply with all Quality Assurance Procedures.

• Provide timely and accurate advice and support to staff and customers on service, workshop and product related issues both orally and in writing where required.

• Participate in branch meetings and provide input on workshop activities.

• Actively participate in audits for QA and ESH systems and practices.  

• Receive and sign in repair and service work orders for products and ensure panels are correctly identified prior to assessment and quoting.

• Precisely assess the equipment for repair according to workshop manuals, parts lists and best working and engineering practices

• Assemble and maintain electrical control switchgear for water and sewerage facilities as per design drawings and consistent with standards, established procedures and relevant statutory regulations

• Supervise and train any temporary labor in XYLEM procedures and practices and to lend support to staff when required

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Matric (Grade 12)
• Relevant tertiary qualification (Technical Diploma / Degree) and/or qualified millwright
• 5 – 10 years experience as a Millwright Section 13 trades person
• Strong working knowledge in fitting & electrical, manufacturing
• Strong technical background

• Must be an excellent communicator, with experience working in a team environment.
• Result orientated , whilst still being committed  to fulfilling the requirements of Xylem’s QA and ESH programs
• Demonstrated ability to identify, locate and repair faults in electrical control equipment.
• Ability to service electric motors, generators & submersible pumps
