    Financial Analyst

    Reporting to the Planning and Analysis Manager, with a strong working relationship with the De Beers Technical & Sustainability and Group Finance teams, the incumbent will be required to contribute to delivery of the group business planning process, with a particular focus on the mining and midstream businesses together with group consolidation as well as the assessment and analysis of both current operational performance and future project investments. There will be a focus on ensuring that there is a cohesive strategic plan across the Group and that both investment opportunities and operational performance align to this plan and deliver the bottom-line benefits as expected.
    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • Participate in the preparation of the joined up De Beers consolidated Business plan (5-year focus and life of mine).
    • Prepare presentation materials and reports in support of Investment Cases, De Beers Group Capital Plan, Business Plan and Budget.
    • Analyse and evaluate proposed changes to operational plans and provide recommendations to the Planning and Analysis.
    • Ensure that the mining leading indicators are joined up with the holistic plan and integrate with the financial numbers.
    • Provide insightful analysis of BU / Group results which can be used to facilitate conversations with both Business Unit and Anglo American senior management.
    • Together with Technical and Sustainability, conduct reviews as required by Business Units and shareholders.
    • Review the business case for major investments (capital or otherwise) and dis-investments as it pertains to the upstream business.
    • Analyse the monthly operational performance against plan in the Mining businesses, identify trends and clearly articulate potential upside or risk to the business.
    • Analyse the monthly spend against the approved capital plan for the Mining business, identify trends, investigate variances and indenting and clearly articulate risks and opportunities.

    What We’re Looking For
    Formal qualifications:

    • Degree in a relevant technical discipline or other appropriate financial qualification.
    • Higher technical degree or CA/CIMA would be advantageous.
    • Due to the nature of the work, your employment application is subject to a police clearance and it is a condition of employment that you be cleared by the Security Department of De Beers and that you retain this security clearance.

    Role-specific knowledge:

    • 5 years’ experience within a financial analyst role or within a business planning environment
    • In addition, experience in the following areas would be advantageous:
    • Operational experience preferably on a mining operation, alternatively experience within a financial role providing a service to a mining client.
    • Experience in compilation of strategic business plans.
    • Interest in understanding mining economics and accounting.
    • Knowledge of investment appraisal techniques of examining, questioning, evaluating reports.
    • Good report writing skills, with the ability to clearly and succinctly summarising business cases, risks and key success factors.
    • Ability to motivate and work with all staff across organisational/cultural boundaries.
    • Knowledge of managing projects and with the ability to work independently.
    • Capacity for detailed work but with the ability to discern and communicate key trends, risks and critical success factors behind the business or project.
    • Appetite for change and continuous improvement.
    • Corporate environment experience.
