    Food Safety Manager

    The position of Maintenance Manager (Food Safety and Facilities Management) based in Port Elizabeth, EC, reports to the Divisional Distribution Director.


    To ensure all risks (including but not limited to shrinkage, safety, security and health, food safety) within the division are effectively managed by introducing and maintaining the Risk and Maintenance Programmes based on the Company’s Standards, whilst ensuring the overall maintenance of buildings and vehicles of the business.


    • Implement and audit the Group Risk Control Programme, comprising of security, fire defence, motor vehicles, safety, insurance, emergency planning, food safety and complying with legal requirements.
    • Implement, audit and maintain the Group Food Safety programme and complying with legal requirements.
    • Ensure legal compliance of the OHSACT, ISO 45001, ISO 18001 and FSSC 22 0000
    • Ensure high standards of housekeeping.
    • Ensure DC compliance with internal audits, procedure and policies.
    • To coordinate/implement/be part of investigations of all site incidents.
    • Assist with the planning, implementation of the environmental programme, monitor and evaluate with continuous improvement.
    • Ensure all insurance-related queries; claims are handled efficiently.
    • Safety awareness sessions monthly with various departments.
    • Implement a safety awareness programme for Company.
    • Build and maintain effective customer and vendor relationships.
    • Manage and allocate building maintenance requirements, including the perishables facility to maintain the cold chain
    • Manage internal traction equipment maintenance requirements.
    • Manage truck maintenance requirements.
    • Negotiate Service Level Agreements with suppliers and internal customer.
    • Raise and motivate Capex


    • Matric
    • S.A. Citizen with no criminal history.
    • National Diploma in Safety Management / SAMTRAC
    • Engineering Diploma would be advantageous.
    • Be technically minded
    • Be able to build strategic working relationships.
    • At least five years of experience in a risk control and or maintenance environment
    • Computer literacy is essential (Word, Excel, E-mail, Access).
    • Quality-orientated with attention to detail and good professional experience, good decision making and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and as an integral team member Impeccable disciplinary and attendance records.
    • Honest and integrity, always acting responsibly and in the best interests of the Company.
