Frontend Developer, React (Remote) at G Adventures

You’ll be joining the gadventures.com web team, responsible for building & maintaining our public-facing website and online booking system. The site currently runs on Django, with heavy use of Django REST framework. Historically we’ve used Javascript to simply enhance the user experience, but increasingly we build components directly against our supporting APIs, using React.

You’ll work directly with our backend developers to modernize our existing frontend code, as well as help lead us on best practices involving Javascript technology choices, testing, building, and future-proofing. You’ll also work with our frontend design team to provide guidance on tooling and integrations.

• Migrate our layers of legacy javascript to ensure maintainability and testability
• Lead decisions on modernizing our front-end stack, with focus on React components
• Deploy often and early
• Develop and share prototypes to test new ideas
• Define testing best practices and ensure reliable test coverage
• Work directly with other software teams (we have many!)
• Work directly with other internal stakeholders
• Explore and review new technologies, for improvement opportunities
• Participate in design and regular code reviews; helping your colleagues do their best

Desired Skills and Experience

• 4+ years of Javascript experience
• 2+ years experience with React
• Experience using Redux
• Fundamental HTML & CSS knowledge
• Comfort working with/alongside Python, Django experience is a plus
• Deep familiarity with browser behaviour and tooling. Request/response, DOM, devtools, etc
• Comfort navigating the command line, especially with git
• Understanding of common application stacks (nginx, node.js, uwsgi, etc.)
• Design sensibilities, both in UX and code craftsmanship
