    Grants Accountant - (1499)

    Job Requirements

    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
    • At least 4 years of experience in a finance environment.
    • A postgraduate qualification or completion of accounting articles will be an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
    • Working knowledge of grants or project accounting and reporting.
    • Familiarity with the ITS system will be an added advantage.

    Duties:

    • Manage the financial accounting of all grant-funded projects, ensuring accurate coding, reconciliations, and compliance with funder requirements, University policies, and applicable regulations.
    • Support the development of realistic budgets for grant applications and proposals, and provide financial guidance to Programme Managers and University Management.
    • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures, verify reported costs for allowability and reasonableness, and provide timely financial updates to stakeholders.
    • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports and invoices for funders, University management, and other stakeholders to ensure effective grant oversight.
    • Analyse grant agreements and contracts to determine reporting requirements, budget constraints, and compliance obligations.
    • Maintain complete and compliant grant files, including invoices, reports, and supporting documentation for all financial transactions.
    • Assist with internal and external audits, provide necessary documentation, and follow up on audit findings to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
    • Contribute to the development and refinement of financial systems, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and reduce financial risk.
    • Identify and flag financial and compliance risks, support corrective actions, and contribute to institutional governance and strategic planning within the Grants Management department.
    • Participate in committees, cross-functional initiatives, and other assigned activities to strengthen the University’s grant management capacity.
