Requirements and Expectations

Minimum Requirements

• ABET Certificate.
• Higher qualifications will serve as an added advantage.

Experience:

• No prior work experience required.
• Two (2) or more years of experience performing manual work will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of general work and handling equipment and appliances.
• Familiarity with gardening tools and lawn care techniques (pruning, trimming, etc.).
• Knowledge of chemical use and mixing procedures.
• Understanding of equipment maintenance and performance procedures.
• Basic knowledge supporting water utilization and water resource strategy.
• Awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of garden maintenance and planting practices.
• Basic understanding of government legislation.
• Good communication skills and teamwork ability.
• Must be able to work in or near rivers, dams, canals, and confined spaces.
• Must be willing to assist other schemes and maintenance teams when required.
• Must be punctual, productive, and loyal.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain grounds, gardens, and outdoor facilities.
• Repair tools and structures such as buildings, fences, and benches using hand and power tools.
• Mix, spray, or spread fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides on plants and lawns using manual or automatic sprayers/spreaders.
• Ensure the upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, fountains, and planters.
• Maintain gardens by watering, pruning, raking, and mulching leaves.
• Sweep and clean parking lots, walkways, and buildings (washing floors, cleaning windows, etc.).
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and refer major repairs to service providers.
• Maintain accurate records, such as job cards and equipment repair logs.
• Inspect and report defects (e.g., cracks in structures, holes in embankments, stagnant water).

• Preference will be given to candidates residing within the Wagendrift Dam geographical area in KwaZulu-Natal Province.
