    Group Safety Manager

    • The Group Safety Manager has overall responsibility for managing safety performance within the integrated supply chain and manage safety related initiatives. The role is also responsible to define and implement Safety policies and standards across the integrated supply chain by collaborating with site level SSE* coordinators / officers. This role will act and provide functional leadership for all site level SSE officers. This role is also responsible for developing the site level Safety Strategy and improvement plans along with site specific resources in order to achieve sustainable Safety excellence.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO:

    • Define and deploy the group Safety strategy, policy and standards at the site to achieve firm’s target ensuring compliance to the country’s rules & regulations and other promulgated codes & standards
    • Responsible for the design & updating of a Tiger Brands Safety system leading to uniform standards within all sites; Design and drive implementation through Site SSE officers, firm’s organizational Safety policies and regulations to ensure a compliant safe and environment.
    • Monitor site legal compliance & provide advice on national Safety legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.
    • Work closely with Occupational Health personnel to identify & mitigate risks that may lead to occupational ill health. Advise line managers on all accident / incident investigations plus providing support on investigation on incidents reported to Workman’s Compensation Commissioner. 
    • Define with site leaders the process to be followed to develop and lead internal crisis committees and safety committee; Support the site leader in leading serious incident investigation and analysis.
    • Develop a thorough understanding of the TB Behavior Based Safety Program and drive deployment in the site. Influence senior management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management.

    Key Professional Competencies

    • Core knowledge – Safety management, Safety rules and regulations, Food Safety, Government policies on Safety

    Key foundational competencies 

    • Academic – Health and safety legal compliance, Analytical skill, Project management, Risk management, Problem solving, Decision making, Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (IOSH, NEBOSH); Qualification in Legal aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
    • Leadership – Leading with Integrity and respect, Influencing others, Managing change, Owning it!, Thinking Innovation, Embracing Diversity, Staying a Step-Ahead
    • Personal Effectiveness – Effective communication, Interpersonal skills

    Experience

    • Function – 10+ yrs. experience in Legal aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; Exposure to supply chain function.
    • Industry – Experience in FMCG Industry desired
