    APM Terminals Growth team is responsible for developing and executing the investment and portfolio strategy for a portfolio of 70+ ports and for the execution of projects that are the results of this strategy. The projects include mergers & acquisitions, (partial) divestments, terminal expansion projects, public tenders for port concessions, concession (re)negotiations etc. This position within the APMT Growth team contributes to the investment and portfolio strategy and execution of portfolio and growth projects in APM Terminals’ Africa Portfolio.

We have also committed to a 70% reduction in absolute (total) emissions as an interim milestone for the period 2020-2030.

    APM Terminals regional Growth team for Africa and Europe is based out of The Netherlands and Cape Town but with some roles being located closer to the markets where we (want to) operate, including this role be based out of Nairobi (Kenya).

    Key Responsibilities

    • Identify target projects, companies and business, partners and/or buyers and sellers
    • To develop and execute the investment and portfolio strategy for APM Terminals in Africa and Europe.
    • To assess the commercial attractiveness and feasibility of investments, make recommendations to Senior Management on divestment/investment decisions and prepare proposals for and conduct negotiation processes.
    • Project manage transactions together with functional supports and business leaders across the wider Maersk organization
    • Build strong trust-based partnerships with (potential) counterparties and partners including (port) authorities, relevant ministries and other public or private institutions.
    • Maintain market awareness regarding market developments, supply/demand, pricing, competition etc., through internal and external sources and networking
    • Be an outstanding market ambassador for APM Terminals within the region

    Who we are looking for 

    • Minimum 8 years of experience in increasing responsibility in Strategy or M&A/Business Development and Investment Banking
    • Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an advantage
    • Knowledgeable with the dynamics of concessions and joint ventures and preferably experienced with large infrastructure projects
    • Strong (corporate) finance skills including experience and knowledge of valuation, modelling, synergy quantification, risk and upside evaluation
    • Experience with negotiating/closing of projects and/or M&A deals (incl, leading due diligence processes)
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving mind to overcome business and legal constraints
    • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills (both verbal and written)
    • Networker and relationship manager, preferably with a strong existing and relevant network
    • Entrepreneurial mindset with a can-do mentality
    • Exercises active ownership. Takes responsibility for own actions and creates and accountable environment
    • Experience with the port and shipping market is an advantage
