A minimum of 3 years appropriate experience as a Medical Specialist in a normal specialty or in a recognized sub-specialty and registration with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
Current annual registration as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine. Certificate of service for all periods of employment as a Medical Specialist.
Knowledge, skills, and competencies: Proven management ability, sound communication skills, leadership skills, decision-making and interpersonal skills, extensive and appropriate experience in all aspects of clinical care, teaching and research.
Financial and Human Resource management skills, conflict resolution, and problem-solving will be an added advantage. Experience in teaching and learning, supervision of postgraduate students, evidence in research and publications in peer reviewed journals.
Duties :
Overall supervision and management of the Internal Medicine, Intensive Care and High Care units in the hospital. Clinical management of both in-patients (internal medicine wards, Intensive Care, High care units and medical consults) and outpatients (ED and MOPD). Make sure that protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are in place for managing common medical conditions, and ensure compliance with these protocols, guidelines and SOPs. Training and supervision of medical interns, medical students, and all other categories of health care workers.
Outreach – Engage in and support outreach programs within the community and local clinics. Clinical governance – ensure quality assurance programs with respect to improving clinical outcomes and managing risks are in place. Administration- planning and execution of operational and strategic plans for the unit and monitoring the performance of staff in the unit.
