Grade 12 certificate, and current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Specialist in Family Medicine. At least 10 years’ experience in family practice /clinical services and administration at primary healthcare services (PHC) after registration with HPCSA as a Specialist in Family Medicine.
Ability to work with PHC facilities in communities, competency in PHC services, and a good understanding of District Health and Primary Health Care Services. Ability to be innovative and creative in the delivery of PHC services and contribute to the achievement of the overall goals of the district and Gauteng province to reduce the disease burden.
The most suitable candidate should have strong clinical management and leadership. Possess academic skills and competencies, including research and some publications. Provide evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience, including supervision of postgraduate research. Computer literacy is essential.
Duties :
Coordination with other programs and stakeholders to offer comprehensive medical services in the district. Support the implementation of ideal clinics, including quality-improvement projects to identify and address patient-care problems across the health system. Ensure Family Physicians have performance management contracts for themselves and their medical officers, community service doctors, and registrars.
Participate in District Management structures, especially by supporting the implementation of the District Health Plan. Provide leadership in the implementation of PHC re-engineering, School Health, and Ward-Based PHC outreach teams. Coordinate and sustain a structured, continued professional development program to optimize the knowledge and skills of clinicians and other relevant health care workers.
Render clinical services to patients across district healthcare facilities. Manage HIV/AIDS and TB, maternal, child, and women's health services. Participate in commuted overtime in the district, as needed.
Develop and monitor the implementation of standard operating procedures, protocols, and treatment guidelines. Provide oversight of the medical internship training rotation in family medicine. Lead and actively participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training programs.
Coordinate and supervise the six-month family medicine rotation for registrars across the district. Conduct research and disseminate findings (including in peer-reviewed publications) that are relevant to improve the safety and quality of clinical services. Perform any other duties as may be determined by the Chief Director.
