    Head of Compliance: Africa

    Job Description

    The role

    • The Head of Compliance Africa will be responsible for leading, directing and managing the implementation of the Global Compliance Management Program. Effectively managing and partnering with the various internal and external stakeholders. Ensuring that the business operations in Africa comply with legal regulations and internal policies.

    How you’ll make an impact

    • Direct Line management of Compliance Officers in Africa delivering excellent people management, development and coaching.
    • Employing agile methodologies to the team’s workload prioritisation, tracking and ensuring maximum value is derived.
    • Owning the production and delivery of the Africa Compliance Annual Plan.
    • Manage the Compliance relationship with the Africa leadership team, ensuring the function is a trusted partner and producing regular high quality ‘state of compliance’ insights.
    • Being an expert in all regulatory requirements and policies applicable to the African markets.
    • Oversee and manage the implementation of each of the CMP elements into the African markets, applying a risk-based approach and identifying high risk areas for early implementation in consideration of other business priorities.
    • Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with the local legal team.
    • Conduct Assurance activities, assess products and develop risk management strategies to ensure compliance.
    • Providing support and advice to the business relating to compliance controls and requirements.
    • Designing and assessing of controls linked to regulatory requirements.
    • Leading training sessions in educating employees in the first line of defense on relevant components of the CMP and key regulatory requirements.
    • Perform periodic audits on company procedures and processes.
    • Promoting the right culture around risk and issue management whilst ensuring that Compliance is a key consideration when risks and issues are identified.
    • Participate in risk management meetings and challenge the business around regulatory risks and issues.
    • Lead and/or support the business through internal and external regulatory audits, examination and investigations.
    • Regularly assess the efficiency of control systems and recommend effective improvements.
    • To be recognised as a role model within the Compliance job family who leads, solves problems, inspires and fully embraces the Experian Way.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in law/ Business Administration or relevant field is essential.
    • Minimum of five years’ experience in a similar position is essential
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a line management role is essential
    • Experience in managing a remote team will be an advantage
    • Experience in working with trade associations (preferably linked to Experian business) and building good relationships with peers from competitor organisations will be an advantage.
    • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the latest industry processes and regulations e.g., Applicable country Credit Acts, POPIA etc. and best practices.
    • Experience in overseeing the implementation of Compliance management frameworks across multiple jurisdictions will be an advantage
    • Working in a matrix organisation will be an advantage.
