Job Description
This job’s main focus is to assist Portfolio Managers in executing their investment strategies. This position has diverse responsibilities covering both the investment and operational spheres of the business. It contributes to the business by enhancing the Portfolio Manager’s understanding of the impact of certain investment decisions, while also actively managing compliance within a diverse range of investment mandates. Daily duties and responsibilities go hand in hand with managing operational risk in the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
Implementation:
1. Portfolio modelling across all Asset classes (Local and International)
2. Implementing portfolio trades with regards to cash flows, portfolio take-on or transitions
3. Implementing changes in asset allocation across various portfolios
4. Order calculation and implementation involving continuous communication with the portfolio managers
5. Daily Portfolio reporting – morning exposure reports
6. Daily Pre and Post Trade compliance mandate monitoring, (being familiar with fund mandates and knowing what investments are suitable and which aren’t, before trading takes place.)
7. Monitoring of portfolio exposures and trades
8. Portfolio checking and performance monitoring
9. Instrument queries on all Asset classes
10. Monitoring of unit trust and instrument pricing
Ad hoc queries, tasks, etc.
Ideal Experience
1. Regulatory Requirements: Reg28, Reg29/30,UCITS, CISCA, ERISA, SEC, FSA
2. 1-3 years’ experience on a multi asset class trading desk
3. Operational experience in all Asset classes across Global Markets.
4. International administration and understanding would be an advantage
Ideal Qualifications
1. Commerce or related financial qualification
2. Numerical subjects of critical importance – accounts, maths or stats
3. Business Science Finance or quantitative management or BComm with accounts, stats and finance
4. CFA L1
Most Important Attribute
1. Passion and energy and a keenness to learn and develop
2. Ability to be highly accurate whilst working under pressure
3. Resilience
Systems Knowledge
1. MSOffice with advanced Excel
2. Reuters, Inet or Bloomberg an advantage
3. Knowledge of Portfolio Management Systems
4. VBA an added advantage
