    Infection Prevention Controller

    Main Focus Areas

    Key Performance Areas: (include but are not limited to)

    • The Infection Controller will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing an effective infection prevention and control programme for the hospital in accordance with infection control standards and international best practices. The role focuses on monitoring, preventing, and managing healthcare-associated infections through the implementation of evidence-based infection control measures, surveillance systems, and staff education.
    • The incumbent will ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, policies, and applicable legislation, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as it relates specifically to infection prevention and control within the hospital environment. This includes conducting regular audits, monitoring infection trends, and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
    • In addition, the Infection Controller will work closely with hospital management, clinical teams, and unit managers to promote adherence to infection control practices, support outbreak investigations, and ensure continuous improvement in infection prevention standards across the facility.

    Post Requirements: (include but are not limited to)

    • A relevant healthcare qualification (e.g., Nursing Diploma/Degree or equivalent clinical qualification).
    • Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable (e.g., Nursing Council).
    • Formal training or certification in Infection Prevention and Control.
    • Knowledge of infection prevention principles, surveillance systems, and outbreak management.
    • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and other applicable healthcare legislation and regulations.
    • Experience in implementing infection prevention and control programmes within a healthcare or hospital environment.
    • Knowledge of healthcare risk waste management processes and infection control standards.
    • Experience in conducting risk assessments, audits, and compliance monitoring.
    • Strong understanding of quality improvement processes and patient safety initiatives.
    • Ability to facilitate training and education on infection prevention, OHS, and quality standards.
    • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
    • Good organizational, analytical, and reporting skills.
    • Computer literacy, including the use of Microsoft Office and healthcare reporting systems.
