Internal Audit Manager at University of Cape Town

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is seeking an Internal Audit Manager to join the Internal Audit department. The main purpose of this position is to perform and/or supervise full scope financial, compliance and operational audits in accordance with prescribed internal auditing standards.

Requirements:

•     A degree (NQF7) in an accounting or finance-related field (e.g. B.Com)
•     A minimum of 6 years relevant audit experience with at least 2 years in a managerial position
•     Ability to supervise and manage a team
•     Demonstrable understanding of accounting and auditing principles
•     Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
•     Demonstrable planning, organising and strong problem-solving skills

   Excellent analytical skills

•      The ability to think objectively and have high levels of integrity to adhere to regulations and compliance
•      Ability to work independently and take initiative
•     A highly logical and methodical approach to work
•     bility to work under pressure and adapt to new situations
•     Excellent time management skills including multi-tasking and prioritization
•     Advanced knowledge of MS Word and Excel
•     Knowledge and exposure to ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems

Knowledge of and exposure to the following would be advantageous:

•     BarnOwl (or similar audit software)
•     PowerBi (or similar analytics tool)
•     IT auditing
•     Completed articles/training with a reputable organization

Responsibilities:

•      Provision of an internal audit plan aligned to the UCT’s risks
•      Anticipating changes to the annual plan and reprioritizing audit work to ensure delivery is achieved
•      Preparation of submissions for the University Audit Committee
•      Provision and detailed review of audit work, and where necessary performing audit work due to the complex nature of the audit assignment/review
•      Review/drafting of audit reports, including obtaining and discussing management recommendations with key stakeholders
•      Supervision and management of audit team
•      Setting measurable and achievable objectives for audit staff together with an adequate development plan
•      Compliance with the Institute of Internal Auditors’ International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)
•      Keeping abreast with the latest trends and emerging issues in the industry as well as UCT policies and procedures
•      Management of the departments operating budget
