Internship: Environment Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) at City of Johannesburg

Minimum Requirements:

• Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Environmental Management and GIS or an equivalent qualification registered at SAQA level 5 or 6.
• Training: The institution aims to extend the training of the student by adding practical or experiential training in the field of GIS or Environmental Management as part of the existing courses/studies.
• Computer Literacy: Proficiency in ArcGIS and MS Office applications.
• Additional Advantage: Knowledge of Environmental Management and a National Diploma in Environmental Management.
• Residency: Only residents of the City of Johannesburg will be considered.

Primary Function:

• Provide GIS services within the Environmental and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD) concerning Environmental Management-based layers and project administration within the City of Johannesburg.
• Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders, including other government departments, officials, and service providers.

Key Performance Areas:

• Assist the department’s directorates in mapping and coordinating environmental data onto ArcGIS.
• Participate in Environmental Awareness events.
• Promote trust, raise awareness of cultural differences, and ensure attendance to sub-unit administrative functions.
• Implement the GIS and Environmental Management procedures of the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) effectively, ensuring that the CoJ is not compromised in the execution of duties.

Leading Competencies:

• Proficiency in MS Office applications, ArcGIS, and email.
• Strong organizing skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills—verbal, listening, and written.
• Effective time management and the ability to work under pressure.
