    Job description
    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • To lecture undergraduate and honours modules in Chemistry.
    • Carry out research in the Department.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Facilitate and administer the learning process for students in Chemistry modules presented at undergraduate and post-graduate levels
    • Review and design academic curricula.
    • Assist in running of specialized equipment and interpretation of data.
    • Contribute to community engagement and be involved in the departmental administrative functions.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the line manager.

    Minimum requirements

    • An honours’ degree (NQF level 8) in Chemistry.
    • A minimum of 1 year teaching experience at university level.

    RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • A Master’s degree (NQF level 9) in Chemistry.
    • At least 1 publication in a peer reviewed journal.
    • Membership with the South African Chemical Institute.
    • A proven research track record.

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Effective lecturing of undergraduate and post-graduate Chemistry theory courses at university level.
    • Ability to run specialized equipment in the Chemistry research laboratory.
    • The ability to carefully analyse data and use logic to address issues and problems at work.
    • Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines.
    • Ability to function as part of the team and also in a multicultural environment.
    • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Good time management.

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • The ability to adhere to rules and strictly follow work regulations.
    • The ability to be cooperative with others, display a good-natured attitude, and encourage people to work together.
    • The ability to be sensitive and understanding to the needs and feelings of others.
