Junior Microbiologist at BASF

The successful incumbent will be responsible for conducting various microbiological tasks across both Fungi and Inoculants QC laboratories. He/she will be responsible to communicate day to day operational, quality and EHS-related activities to the Senior Microbiologist and Quality Manager to ensure the timely release of results and routine operations in the laboratories are conducted in accordance with BASF and site procedures. Duties will include the following-

• Conduct routine and ad hoc QC testing, shelf life testing and environmental monitoring
• Responsible for daily analyzing and capturing of results from batch protocols into QC database
• Responsible for communication and handover to all QC lab staff via daily start-up and shutdown meetings
• Responsible for all testing and management of results and communication of results in area of responsibility
• Planning of all routine and ad hoc testing required in area of responsibility and timeous feedback of results
• Responsible for releasing AI batches on a weekly basis to Production & Supply Chain and daily release of pertinent Production results
• Release of results for scheduled disinfection of Production equipment. Four-eye and release of environmental results bi-monthly
• Four-eye results for other lab technicians on QC database
• Responsible for reporting non-conformances to Quality Manager immediately
• Generation of all CoA’s as per agreed timeframes and uploading on server
• Replenishing of stock in all areas of lab.
• Maintenance of lab stock levels (chemical and consumables)
• Sign-off on all disinfection log sheets across both labs
• Assist with Responsible Care (RC) and ISO 9001 requirements and audits
• Participate in Root cause analysis (RCA’s), MOC’s, Lean 6 Sigma improvement efforts, incident investigations, and all audits (ISO 9001 & RC)
• Ensure area of responsibility is kept clean and neat at all times in accordance with lab cleaning schedules and good laboratory practices
• Responsible for 5S is area of responsibility
• Mentor and assist lab interns

What We Expect

• National Diploma in Biotechnology or any equivalent qualification
• Computer literacy (MS Office suite)
• Data analysis and data presentation skills
• Ability to work under pressure, independently and in a team setting
• Technical competency in microbiology lab
• Excellent problem solving skills
