Junior Mine Planner at Tharisa

Purpose of Role

To assist and provide input into the production of mine plans for the Short-Term Planning (STP) window. To collaborate with the operational team and gather information from other Mineral Resources Management (MRM) disciplines to use as inputs for the short-term plans.

Role Context

• Aid and give input into the development, and take part in the maintenance and presentation of, the Weekly Operational Plan (WOP), supporting alignment between the schedules and the WOP, STP and the practical execution thereof.
• Collate the relevant operational and Mineral Resources Management (MRM) inputs and check the validity, accuracy and applicability of the information.
• Obtain the skill to assist with the design of blocks, accesses and other infrastructure required for optimal pit deployment.
• Assist with inputs into the reconciliation process, by collaborating with the short-term planning team to support optimal alignment between the WOP and STP.
• Assist with and obtain the skills to produce detailed pit designs and scheduling for the week and short-term plan, to support the pit operations team in executing their activities according to plan.
• Conduct frequent pit visits and daily liaison with the mine operations team to ensure the planning activities are aligned with the status in the pit.
• Translate planning into practical pit operations and influence WOP practicality, supporting a high-quality WOP that is practically executable in such a way that interfaces are managed and that it fully supports operational requirements.
• Collaborate with operations-, geology-, survey-, geotechnical-, maintenance and processing departments to support the improvement of the quality of the WOP planning and implementation.
• Provide insight into, and master the competency to, produce the following planning outputs in the Deswik software:
• Bench-prep schedule and drilling schedule, aligned with the load and haul path.
• A load and haul schedule, aligned with the bench prep and drilling schedule, ensuring the schedules do not contain conflicting tasks when executing each schedule.
• Blasting schedule.
• Weekly plan for RC drilling.
• Access designs enabling the incumbent to produce, cut, and fill solids and determine the volumes from the solids.
• Incorporate the maintenance schedule in the weekly mine plan, to support the operations teams in meeting their goals.
• Follow a detailed developmental plan and obtain skills to relieve Mine Planners when on leave and work toward being eligible to comply with all the requirements of a Mine Planner, should vacancies of such positions arise.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 (NQF4)
• Diploma (NQF6) in Mining Engineering or Mine Surveying is advantageous
• Rock Breakers Certificate/Blasting Certificate is advantageous

Job specific experience:

• A minimum of between one to two (1-2) years of practical mining training or an internship programme after graduation
• A technical motivation referral letter will be considerate an advantage
