    Laboratory Technician

    Job description

    •          Provide comprehensive IT support for graduate and post graduate PC laboratories in SCSIS.
    •          Provide comprehensive IT support for research computers in SCSIS.
    •          Provide comprehensive IT support and innovation for staff of SCSIS.

    Minimum requirements
    Qualification

    •         Degree or relevant and equivalent certificates in Computer Science and Information Systems/ IT is essential.
    •         A and N is desirable.
    •         Accreditations in ITIL Foundation is desirable.
    •         Membership of Professional IT/CS/IS societies is desirable.

    Experience/s

    •         2 year’s work experience in System and network administration is essential.
    •         2 year’s work experience in NWU IT support is desirable.
    •         Work experience in enterprise level IT is desirable.

     
    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    •         Be able to setup client / server environments for student laboratories as well as research projects.
    •         Function independently.
    •         Assist with administrative tasks.
    •         Evaluate and operate computer equipment in SCSIS.
    •         Work under pressure and reach deadlines.

     
    KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    •         Respond in a timely manner to IT related requests.
    •         Learn about and acquire expertise on new technologies.
    •         Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the multilingual environments of the NWU.
    •         Patience and ability to provide IT assistance remotely and on university premises.
    •         Have a good understanding of networks, printers, software and software licensing.
    •         Record keeping.
    •         Liason with Campus IT.
    •         Troubleshooting of IT problems (intermediate to advanced).

     
    The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
