Key Areas of Impact:
Repairs and maintenance on diesel propulsion and auxiliary engines
- Preventive and corrective maintenance on propulsion diesel engines and other mechanical equipment as recommended by OEM Representatives and OEM Maintenance Manuals.
- Fault finding and problem solving, RCA’s and documenting of findings and recommendations.
- Proactive planning and execution of vessel turnarounds maintenance tasks.
Inspections on mechanical equipment, propulsion and auxiliary diesel engines
- Inspections on mechanical equipment, propulsion and auxiliary engines for safety and correct operation.
- Recording and reporting of faults and deviations on mechanical equipment, propulsion and auxiliary equipment.
Management, training and development of sub-ordinates to promote skills transfer
- Delegate work to ensure skills transfer amongst the team members.
- Identify developmental areas based on individual needs.
Maintain positive relationships with key Stakeholders
- Maintain a good working relationship with OEM Supervisors, Technicians and Vessel Chief Engineers.
Support vessel turnarounds, outages and quayside operations
- Respond to emergencies during and after hours to resolve immediate safety and operational concerns.
- Maintain assigned equipment and tools to ensure availability and good working condition.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as assigned to convey and gather information required to perform job functions.
- Coordinate with assigned Foreman and other trades to complete projects and work orders timeously.
- Informs colleagues regarding safe working procedures to provide information for decision making, take appropriate actions.
- Comply with all Health, Safety & Environment and Building Regulations.
What It Takes to Succeed:
Experience that set you up for success:
- Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in the maintenance of Diesel Propulsion Systems - Engine Systems on Marine Vessels
Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- The ideal candidate will hold a minimum N3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:
- Technical and maintenance knowledge on MAN and WARTSILA Propulsion Engines – advantageous
- Knowledge of SAP – advantageous
- Basic knowledge of the OHS Act
