Learning Support Assistant High School Grade 8-10 at SAHETI School

• The Learning Support Assistant will promote inclusive teaching and learning across Grades 8 to  10. The role provides targeted, evidence-based support to students experiencing barriers in  reading, written language and related areas of learning, while working collaboratively with  teachers, parents and the school support team.

Duties and Responsibilities    
Key Responsibilities 

• Provide structured individual and small-group intervention for students identified  through screening, assessment or teacher referral. 
• Plan, coordinate and run the high school reading programme for Grades 8 to 10,  including screening, intervention, progress monitoring and reporting. 
• Support the development of reading accuracy, fluency and comprehension, as well as  spelling, vocabulary, writing and broader English-language proficiency. 
• Use evidence-based programmes and differentiated strategies suited to students  identified needs. 
• Collaborate with subject teachers to identify effective classroom approaches,  accommodations and learning resources. 
• Keep teachers and the multidisciplinary team informed of students' progress, emerging needs and recommended support. 
• Communicate professionally with parents and liaise with external professionals when  required. 
• Maintain clear intervention plans, progress records and confidential student  documentation. 
• Contribute to relevant school support meetings and consistently apply school policies  and safeguarding procedures. 

Knowledge and skills 

• Sound knowledge of adolescent literacy development and evidence-based reading  intervention. 
• Familiarity with the English Home Language IEB Subject Assessment Guidelines. 
• Ability to assess needs, set measurable intervention goals and monitor student progress. 
• Ability to motivate students and prepare purposeful, engaging learning resources. 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, parents,  teachers and external professionals. 
• Organised administration, sound professional judgement and respect for confidentiality. 
• Confidence in using ICT and assistive or educational technologies. 
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Minimum Requirement: 

• A recognised teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed. HED, ADE or PGCE. 
• English III or an equivalent major in English. 
• Postgraduate training in Learning Support, Remedial Education or a closely related  field. 
• Current and valid SACE certificate. 
• Experience supporting adolescents with reading, language or learning barriers.
