    Lecturer: Biomedical Sciences (5-Year Contract)

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Master’s degree in the field of Biomedical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
    • At least 2 year’s lecturing experience and/or 4 years clinical practice experience in medical laboratory diagnostic laboratories.
    • Be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Scientist.
    • The incumbent will be expected to enroll for the HDHET or equivalent to improve lecturing skills.

    Recommendations:

    • Preference will be given to applicants who hold a Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science degree and are registered with the HPCSA in one of the following professional categories: Clinical Pathology, Cytogenetics, Virology, Histology, Microbiology, Clinical chemistry.
    • Postgraduate teaching qualification.
    • Recent track record of research supervision and publication.

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Lecturing of subjects included in the curriculum of the BHSc: Medical Laboratory Science.
    • Develop appropriate teaching material of subjects being offered on the BHSc programme.
    • Participate in Curriculum development.
    • Perform academic administration tasks including those involved in the articulation programme.
    • Promote and participate in community engagement projects and maintain links with role players.
    • Be involved and assist with quality assurance and regulatory body accreditation.
    • Be involved in any other Learning, Teaching, Assessment and administrative skills as required by the department.
    • Identify at risk students, develop intervention strategies and monitor student progress.
    • Plan, coordinate and supervise academic activities.
    • Assisting with departmental initiatives, encompassing the development, support, implementation and evaluation of strategic and operational plans.
    • Conduct research and contribute towards departmental research output.
