    Lecturer: Department of Mercantile Law (One Post) - Faculty of Law

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in programmes on offer in the Department of Mercantile Law;
    • Developing a research programme in any of the primary fields of recruitment or expanding existing research programmes;
    • Publishing research articles in the foremost national/international accredited journals;
    • Participating in national and international conferences in any of the primary fields of recruitment;
    • Supervising postgraduate students in any of the primary fields of recruitment;
    • Performing assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature);
    • Community engagement in relation to any of the primary fields of recruitment; and
    • Representing the Department on Faculty and other committees as assigned.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • An appropriate Master’s degree;

    Candidates should also have experience in teaching, postgraduate supervision and research in one or more of the following primary fields of recruitment:

    • Company Law;
    • Credit Law;
    • Insurance Law.

    Candidates with teaching, postgraduate supervision and research experience in one or more of the following secondary fields of recruitment may also be considered:

    • Banking Law;
    • Insurance Law;
    • Commercial Law.
    • The academic record of a candidate applying for this position must show evidence of excellence and their CV must reflect the candidate's potential to become established as a teacher and researcher of good standing within one or more of the fields of recruitment;
    • Relevant tertiary teaching experience will be a strong recommendation;
    • At least two peer-reviewed and accredited publications in the last three years as a strong recommendation;
    • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching as a strong recommendation;
    • Relevant academic administration experience will be a recommendation.
