    Lecturer (Faculty of Health Sciences: Department of Podiatry)

    Job description

    • The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Johannesburg, wishes to appoint a lecturer qualified and registered as a Podiatrist who will contribute actively towards teaching and learning, research and CPD development; in in-line with the vision, mission and goals of the University of Johannesburg.
    • The successful candidate is expected to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research supervision, contribute to research outputs and the development and review of undergraduate teaching and curricula and, where necessary, become involved in community outreach and CPD activities in line with the departmental and Faculty specific objectives. 

    Responsibilities:

    •  Teaching undergraduate students in the Department of Podiatry (Faculty of Health Sciences)
    •  Actively involved in core department activities such as academic administration, research supervision, course development, consulting, and community-related projects.
    •  Actively participate in the Department's research focus areas, producing outputs such as journal papers.
    •  Facilitate teaching and learning within the domain of Podiatry.
    •  Facilitate theory and practice integration. 

    Minimum requirements

    • Master’s Degree (NQF 9) and a postgraduate qualification in Podiatry
    • NB - The position will be offered on a fixed-term contract and considered for a permanent contract on the completion of an approved doctorate qualification (NQF 10) within a five (5) year period.
    • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Podiatrist.Podiatry qualification approved for registration as a practitioner by the Health Professions Council of South Africa
    • A minimum of two years lecturing/teaching at the university level in the field of Podiatry
    • A minimum of two years clinical supervision of Podiatry students
    • Driver's license (Code EB)

    Recommendations:

    • Lecturing or tutoring experience
    • Involvement in student clinical supervision and moderation.

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Excellent command in the field of Podiatry
    • Good written and verbal English communications skills
    • Teaching skills and good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to collaborate with colleagues
    • Good planning and organisational skills
    • Enthusiasm and passion for education, research, and community engagement
    • The ability to function independently as well as in a team
    • Good time management skills and the ability to perform under pressure.
