    Lecturer in Pharmaceutical Sciences (nGAP) (P003791)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • To conduct and expand preclinical drug development and pharmaceutical sciences research, supervise postgraduate students and co-ordinate and/or execute client studies.
    • Since this is an nGAP position, the candidate will be expected to register for and complete his/her doctoral studies, participate successfully in the DHET's Staffing South Africa's Universities Development Programme, and work under the supervision of an appointed mentor.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching & Learning, including postgraduate supervision

    • Supervise postgraduate studies of M.Sc. students.
    • Responsible for training students in the principles of preclinical drug development, effective science communication, and rigorous scientific thinking.

    Research, innovation and/or artistic or creative activity

    • Sustained research output.
    • Regular conference participation. 

    Leadership, management and university service

    • Contributions to leadership and administration at departmental level and to the general well-being of the entity.
    • Possibly some contributions at faculty level.

    Social responsiveness, including community engagement/sharing of expertise

    • Develop worthwhile interactions with industry or other constituencies outside of NWU that are to the benefit of scholarship at the University and the broader society.
    • Coordination and/or execution of client research studies. 
    • Participation in and adherence to the quality management system in accordance with the designated role. 

    Occupational Health and Safety

    • Adhere to and participate in OHS protocols and training.

    Minimum requirements

    • A Master of Science in Chemistry/ Biochemistry/ Pharmaceutical Sciences / Biological Sciences (NQF Level 9). The master’s degree must be achieved with an average of 70% or above. Please attach proof of the results in your application.
    • A minimum of one (1) year’s laboratory experience, with the ability to perform and manage laboratory tasks.
    • A minimum of one (1) year’s research experience, with the ability to participate in research activities and contribute to master’s programme research and client studies.
    • Applicants must be SA citizens and 40 years or younger of age.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:

    • A minimum of one (1) year’s management experience, with the ability to effectively manage staff and students.
    • A minimum of one (1) years’ quality assurance experience in regulatory environments and quality systems, and active involvement in quality-related activities.
