Lecturer in Psychology (Sport Psychology Focus) at University of Pretoria/Universiteit van Pretoria

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be expected to:

• Engage in teaching, curriculum development, and co-ordination of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
• Supervise postgraduate research commensurate with the post level;
• Supervise practical work in the relevant MA professional programmes;
• Provide professional services (such as assessment, counselling/psychotherapy, and/or related performance support interventions) at the UP Sport, Exercise Medicine and Lifestyle Institute (SEMLI) as determined by the Head of Department; 
• Conduct research commensurate with the level of appointment and actively contribute to the Department’s research profile;
• Perform academic and administrative duties as determined by the Head of Department;
• Participate in the Department’s strategic initiatives (including transdisciplinary work) relating to teaching, research, and community engagement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

• A Master’s degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology;
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist for at least 3 years; 
• The equivalent of two years’ tertiary teaching experience, including block and/or temporary teaching, or relevant professional/industry experience
• Evidence of research productivity (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals, chapters in peer-reviewed books, published conference papers, or equivalent recognised research outputs; significant progress in PhD studies)

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES)

• Professional practice experience as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist;
• Proven experience in developing and delivering interventions in the field of Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology; 
• Proven ability to lecture in at least two, but preferably more, of the following areas at the undergraduate level: introductory psychology, biological psychology, cognitive psychology, psychological assessment, social psychology, developmental psychology, community psychology, critical psychology; 
• Demonstrated research focus aligned with departmental thematic areas.

• Experience in lecturing or professional training at the postgraduate (MA) level
