    Lecturer – Just Energy Transition Engineering

    Description

    • The School of Electrical and Information Engineering invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for appointment at the academic level of Lecturer in the Just Energy Transition. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, supervision and project implementation in the School and the ENERGISE Centre (Enabling a Just Energy Transition through Renewable Energy, Governance and Innovative Sustainable Entrepreneurship (ENERGISE) Centre).
    • The ENERGISE Centre is funded until December 2030, with the possibility of an extension to December 2035, subject to project performance and continued funding support.
    • This is a fixed-term appointment linked to the duration of the ENERGISE Centre project. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and  experience and in accordance with the University's remuneration policies. Percentage of fixed term contract will be defined each year relative to  funding availability.

    Brief Description        
    Qualifications and Requirements

    • A MSc in Engineering or a cognate discipline is required, PhD an advantage.
    • Proven teaching experience at a tertiary level.
    • Evidence of an emerging research record, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
    • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary and/or transdisciplinary research, particularly in fields combining engineering, entrepreneurship and/or policy.

    Demonstrated research, teaching, and practical expertise in the engineering aspects (design, development, installation, operation, community engagement) of systems and technologies relevant to the Just Energy Transition, including but not limited to:

    • Rural and/or peri-urban electrification, distributed energy systems, mini-grids, microgrids or community energy systems
    • Design and deployment of mini grid systems
    • Entrepreneurship or energy market development
    • Renewable energy policy

    Key Responsibilities

    • Implementation and management of the Peri-Urban Living Lab
    • Collaborate with ENERGISE partners, industry, society, and external stakeholders on initiatives related to the Just Energy Transition.
    • Teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses related to the Just Energy Transition, including Renewable Energy, Power and Energy and     core Electrical and Information Engineering subjects, as required.
    • Contribute meaningfully to the research output and postgraduate supervision of the School.
    • Develop and strengthen postgraduate and research programmes in Just Energy Transition and Wits ENERGISE Centre.
