    Lecturer: Operations Management - (8862)

    Job Purpose
    Purpose of the Position

    • The purpose of this position is to lecture and facilitate learning in Operations Management–related subjects at NQF Levels 7 and 8, such as Operations Management Techniques, Managing the Value Chain Network, Strategic Management, Project Management, Enterprise Resource Planning and Statistics. The incumbent will be responsible for curriculum development and regular updating of course content to ensure academic relevance, industry alignment, and compliance with institutional standards.
    • The successful candidate will contribute to departmental, and Faculty academic initiatives aimed at enhancing teaching, learning, and research excellence. This includes active participation in research activities, scholarly engagement, and community engagement initiatives in line with the Faculty’s strategic objectives.
    • The department also seeks to appoint an experienced Lecturer with demonstrated knowledge and teaching expertise in Costing and Financial Management, and Basic Computer Applications within a higher education context.

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience
    Minimum Requirements: Lecturer

    • A Master’s degree in Operations Management / Supply Chain Management.
    • An Underpinning qualification in Operation management
    • A minimum of two (2) years’ full-time teaching experience in a higher education environment.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in hybrid teaching and learning models, including face-to-face, online and blended delivery modes.

    Recommendations / Added Advantages

    • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant industry experience in operations management, supply chain management or related functional areas.
    • Sound subject knowledge in Operations Management and related disciplines at undergraduate level (NQF Levels 7and 8).
    • Proven experience in teaching Costing, Financial Management, and/or Basic Computer Applications within a higher education environment.
    • Proven ability to develop, review, and update curriculum content in alignment with institutional and industry requirements.
    • Demonstrated research engagement, including postgraduate supervision and a record of accredited scholarly publications.
    • A Doctoral degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a closely related discipline will be advantageous.

    Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

    • Teaching & Learning – Lecture both undergraduate and post graduate subjects in the department. Compile subject guides in compliance with university guidelines. Use appropriate teaching methods, practices and technologies. Identify students at risk timeously and develop intervention strategies. Appoint tutors /mentors to support students learning experiences.
    • Academic Development - Complete the University Teaching Development Programme (TDP). Attend departmental Faculty and institutional academic development workshops and seminars
    • Accreditation – Adhere to Council of Higher Education accreditation policy and procedures.
    • Administration – Administer student attendance registers and assessment records. Upload students’ assessment results as per university deadlines. Examine and moderate assessments and examinations. Report progress of syllabi developments.
    • Community Service and Outreach – Contribute to community initiatives by integrating community service interventions into curriculum.
    • Counselling – Provide basic counselling and mentoring to students, including referrals to Student Counselling services.
    • Curriculum & Assessment – Contribute to curriculum development of undergraduate and post graduate programmes. Participate in curriculum review to ensure alignment with industry and professional standards. Review and update assessments methods and practices in alignment with SAQA level descriptors. Report on subject pass rates and participate in subject reviews.
    • Quality Assurance – Contribute to quality assurance via record keeping, committee participation and submission of relevant documents. Implement appropriate quality improvements / interventions and monitor the impact of QA recommendations within the department.
    • Recruitment / Marketing – Contribute to the planning of the university “Open Day” and participate in departmental “Open Day” activities.
    • Personal / Professional Development – Keep abreast with developments in Operations Management Field of study and its implications on the curriculum. Engage in current professional development activities.
    • Industry Advisory Board and Partnerships – Liaise and partner with commerce and industry on workplace –based learning initiatives, new techniques, technologies and research projects.
    • Research – Publish / co-author at least one high quality article in an accredited journal annually. Participate in national and international conferences. Lecture post graduate subjects and supervise them.
    • Health & Safety – Ensure compliance with university safety rules and regulations
    • Human Resources Management – Adhere to the University’s Human Capital processes and procedures, including Performance Management and learning & development for career pathing.
