    Lecturer- School of Health Care Science - Department of Human Nutrition - Faculty of Health Sciences

    RESPONSIBILITIES:            

    The incumbent will be responsible for:

    • Teaching undergraduate medical nutrition therapy conditions with a specific focus on paediatrics nutrition; 
    • Clinical supervision of undergraduate students in the medical nutrition field of practice;
    • Planning and coordination of the 4th year internship programme (including, but not limited to lectures, placements, facility accreditations and site visits);
    • Participating in skills training necessary for paediatrics medical nutrition therapy (undergraduate and postgraduate);
    • Coordination of undergraduate modules, including updating course content with current literature and intervention strategies and revising study guides;
    • Maintaining the electronic learning environment for students;
    • Performing other academic and research duties as may be delegated by the Head of Department;
    • Participate in the Department, School of Healthcare Sciences, and Faculty strategic initiatives relating to teaching and learning, research and community engagement; 
    • Assist with marketing/ outreach activities of the department (may require weekend work or after hours) 

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • A Master’s degree in Dietetics;
    • Current registration with Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner (registered dietitian);
    • One DHET accredited publication.   

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

    • Good verbal and written communication skills;
    • Good interpersonal and mentoring skills;
    • Good computer skills;
    • Ability to work independently and in a team;
    • Scientific writing skills.

    ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

    • Recent and up to date clinical experience including paediatric nutrition;
    • PhD in Dietetics;
    • A valid driver’s licence;
    • At least one year of teaching, assessment and clinical supervision of students at a Higher Education Institution.
