Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer /Associate Professor / Professor In Zoology And Entomology at Rhodes University

Main Objectives

All academics are responsible for disseminating knowledge (teaching and learning), creating knowledge (research) and community engagement, and recognizing differences in executing these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. Academics are also expected to assume administrative, management, and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty, and/or University level and contribute to their profession.

In addition, a Professor and Associate Professor provide academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, and community engagement and contribute towards the institution's governance. This professor's leadership contribution should be evidenced at the departmental, Faculty, and institutional levels.

The Requirements
Lecturer:

• At least a PhD in Marine Biology or a cognate discipline
• Tutoring, facilitation, or conference presentation experience required. Some teaching experience is an added advantage.
• Ability to teach in some of the following disciplinary areas: physical/biological oceanography, ecophysiology, evolutionary biology, ecology, biological modelling, cell biology, statistics in biology
• Some research supervision of postgraduate degrees is an added advantage.
• Some administrative experience, albeit in informal contexts, e.g., student or sports clubs, work experiences.

Senior Lecturer:

• At least a PhD in Marine Biology or a cognate discipline
• Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is required.
• Experience in teaching some topics related to physical/biological oceanography, ecophysiology, evolutionary biology, ecology, biological modelling, cell biology, and statistics in biology. Experience in research in marine biology topics.
• Research supervision of at least Masters’ degrees to completion is required.
• Emerging national profile in the discipline.
• Track record of research publication and research grant funding
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Associate Professor

• At least a PhD in Marine Biology or a cognate discipline
• Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Experience in teaching some topics related to physical/biological oceanography, ecophysiology, evolutionary biology, ecology, biological modelling, cell biology, and statistics in biology. Experience in research in marine biology topics.
• Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees to completion.
• National and emerging international profile in the discipline.
• Track record of research publication and research grant funding.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Professor

• At least a PhD in Marine Biology or a cognate discipline
• Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Experience in teaching some topics related to physical/biological oceanography, ecophysiology, evolutionary biology, ecology, biological modelling, cell biology, and statistics in biology. Experience in research in marine biology topics.
• Research supervision of Masters and PhD degrees to completion.
• International profile in Marine Biology.
• Track record of research publication and research grant funding.
• Track record of administration, management, and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).
