    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor - School of Accountancy (3 positions) (Job ID: 5704)

    Duties and responsibilities: 

    • Teach, coordinate and assess the Financial Accounting / Accounting, Management Accounting & Financial Management, Taxation and/or Auditing modules offered by the School of Accountancy at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 
    • Develop students’ digital acumen and other relevant graduate attributes. 
    • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation to ensure that the module offerings accommodate the requirements of professional accountancy bodies (e.g. SAICA’s CA of the Future Competency Framework) and the changing world of work. 
    • Contribute to advancing the pedagogical practices followed in the School of Accountancy. 
    • Conduct research and publish in quality journals. 
    • Attend and present at conferences, research colloquia, workshops, and seminars. 
    • Develop and maintain relationships with the relevant research community, the accountancy profession, and professional bodies to establish collaborations and partnerships. 
    • Perform administrative duties within the School. 

    For the associate professor / senior lecturer post, the following additional duties and responsibilities are applicable: 

    • Perform an academic leadership role in the School of Accountancy, including ensuring quality assurance. 
    • Supervise postgraduate students with their Honours, master’s or PhD theses / research projects. 
    • Mentor junior staff to achieve their academic/career goals. 

    Inherent requirements:

    Lecturer

    • A relevant master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy

    or 

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a relevant Honours degree or equivalent qualification in Accountancy on NQF Level 8 (contract appointment: five years during which a relevant master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
    • A good academic record.

    Senior Lecturer

    • A relevant PhD on NQF Level 10 with specialisation in Accountancy 

    or 

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a relevant master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy

    or 

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a relevant Honours degree or equivalent qualification in Accountancy on NQF Level 8  and possessing a track record of academic leadership in professional programmes or possessing extensive practical experience (contract appointment: five years during which a master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
    • Proven experience in the successful facilitation of learning in the accountancy field. 
    • Has made quality contributions to the advancement of knowledge within the higher education or accountancy-in-business field.
    • Has produced high quality scholarly publications or reports in the field of accountancy.

    Associate Professor

    • A relevant PhD on NQF Level 10 with specialisation in Accountancy 

    or 

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a relevant master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy

    or 

    • A Chartered Accountant (SA) holding a relevant Honours degree or equivalent qualification in Accountancy on NQF Level 8  and possessing a track record of academic leadership in professional programmes or possessing extensive practical experience (contract appointment: five years during which a master’s degree on NQF Level 9 with specialisation in Accountancy MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
    • Proven experience in the successful facilitation of student learning and curriculum development in the field of accountancy in the higher education environment.
    • Has a national reputation as an active researcher and a scholar in the field of accountancy.
    • Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
    • Acted as an editorial board member of high-quality national scholarly journals.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
    • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals. 
    • Served as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels OR showed evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.

    Recommendations:

    • Associate Professor / Senior lecturer 
    • Possesses strong leadership and management skills. 
    • Demonstrates excellent potential to obtain a PhD if not already obtained. 
    • Is willing to contribute in a proactive and collegial manner to the strategic projects of the School of Accountancy. 
    • Is willing to be a member of the management team of the School of Accountancy. 
    • Membership of professional accountancy bodies related to the areas of teaching / research. 

    Lecturer 

    • Possesses practical experience in the field of Accountancy. 
    • Recent relevant lecturing experience at an institution of higher learning. 
    • Proven record of relevant scholarly publications. 

    Membership of professional accountancy bodies related to the areas of teaching / research.
