    Legal Officer

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Provide direct legal services including comprehensive support in criminal cases, assistance with protection orders and general legal advice.
    • Work closely with LvA’s mental health professionals to implement LvA’s integrated services model.
    • Maintain accurate and complete client files on Soweto Care System.
    • Lead LvA’s state actor engagement initiatives in Diepsloot, including local accountability and capacity-building activities.
    • Identify and manage stakeholder partnerships relevant to programme effectiveness in Diepsloot.
    • Facilitate legal education workshops, as needed.
    • Write programmatic reports and other documentation.
    • Supervise and oversee professional development of Junior Legal Officer.
    • Assist with marketing and communication efforts, as needed.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • LLB or other law degree or paralegal qualification
    • Experience working with victims of gender-based violence or other vulnerable populations preferred.
    • Experience providing direct legal services within a community-based setting preferred.
    • Strong understanding of women’s rights and issues around gender-based violence.

    Competencies Required:

    • Fluency in isiZulu, Sepedi and/or Tshivenda.
    • High levels of flexibility, strong leadership skills and a clear sense of purpose.
    • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, both individually and in a team.
    • Excellent analytical skills and oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain the confidentiality required.
    • Resilience and the ability to cope with challenging situations.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritise your workload.
    • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office suite.
