Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas

• The University of the Western Cape Library Services’ vision is to be a strategic partner recognised for our excellence in innovative and relevant library services. 
• The primary role of the Library Assistant is to support library learning, teaching and research activities, particularly those related to open science, collections, virtual reference and user services.

Main duties and responsibilities include: 

• Perform library user services duties i.e., Circulation; Short loans; ILL etc.
• Perform basic cataloguing & databases searches
• Provide support to research services including institutional repositories
• Perform virtual & in-person reference services
• Collection development and maintenance
• Assist and participate in library events and other projects.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

• A B.Bibl / BLIS degree at NQF Level 8 or a relevant equivalent qualification 
• One year’s working experience in a library, preferably digital library setting

Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes): 

• Experience with user services
• Knowledge of digital transformation in the library environment 
• Exposure to open science activities 
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
• Attention to detail and ability to plan
• Willingness to work over weekends as required.
