Line Manager

• Lead a workshop in order to deliver the expected output of the production, control the performance through Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety indicators, using the guiding principles of Alstom Production System for people development and continuous improvement.

During the first year, support the ramp-up of the activities through:

• Controlling the progress of the refurbishment and upgrade of the concerned workshop.
• Participating into the installation of production line and equipment.
• Recruiting the work force and supervisors of the workshop.
• Structuring all his management area (instances, town-down & bottom-up management aspects).

Responsibilities And Objectives

• To monitor the refurbishment of the workshop with construction and maintenance team.
• To recruit the workforce (workers & supervisors) for his activities in the respect of targets given by the company.
• To build with Industrialization and Technology Transfer managers the training and TOT program.
• To lead the ramp-up of the production under his scope.
• To improve safety results by promoting solving issues on safety topics and ensuring that production standards are well applied.
• To ensure that QCD targets are achieved.

Business Understanding And Desired Knowledge/Experience

• Leader and source of motivation for the group of approx. 100 people towards achieving a set of predefined targets
• Must have a practical, working knowledge of labour-relations policies and procedures in the South African labour context.
• Must be able to communicate effectively at different levels with the organisation.
• Must display high levels of integrity, ethics and morals.
• Must be extremely disciplined concerning time management
• Must have a high regard for customer/ supplier relationships.
• Must be knowledgeable of best practice principles.
• Must be flexible to work outside of normal operational boundaries to support team targets
• Must display strong business acumen, particularly wrt to cost consciousness, efficiency improvements and profit generation. Cross discipline skills.
• Must have conceptual thinking skills
• Must be Analytical
• Must have decision-making & problem-solving skills
• Presentation skills
• Must be computer literate.

Educational Requirements

• Relevant Diploma / Degree (preferably Mechanical / Electrical/ Industrial Engineering). MDP or relevant Business management qualification will be an added advantage.
• In addition, at least 5 years manufacturing, management experience. Preference will be given to candidates with management experience gained in a lean manufacturing environment.
