Logistics Yard Controller - Pietermaritzburg at Accountancy Placements

• Our client is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Logistics Yard Controller to oversee yard operations and coordinate the efficient movement, storage, and dispatch of materials.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily yard operations, including material staging, loading, offloading, and storage
• Coordinate loading schedules and dispatch priorities to meet project delivery deadlines
• Ensure the safe and accurate loading of trucks and trailers in accordance with dispatch requirements
• Conduct pre-dispatch inspections and verify material readiness with relevant departments
• Manage yard space, stock movement, and material flow to optimise operational efficiency
• Lead and support yard personnel, ensuring compliance with safety, housekeeping, and security standards
• Monitor loading equipment and ensure safe handling practices are followed
• Liaise with dispatch, stores, and production teams to coordinate inbound and outbound materials
• Maintain accurate records of yard movements, dispatch activities, and related documentation
• Report operational delays, damages, and safety concerns, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• Matric or equivalent qualification
• Certificate or Diploma in Logistics, Warehouse, or Operations Management advantageous
• Minimum 5 years' experience in yard or logistics supervision within a manufacturing, construction, steel, or fabrication environment
• Proven experience coordinating loading operations and leading teams
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (e.g. SAGE)
• Knowledge of safe lifting, rigging, load securing, and material handling practices
• Ability to interpret dispatch documentation, loading plans, and inventory records
• Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
• Safety-conscious with excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
• Physically fit and comfortable working in workshop and outdoor yard environments
• Forklift or crane certification advantageous
• Willingness to work extended hours when operational requirements demand
