Mainframe Engineer at Paracon

Our client is a giant in the financial services field and they have an exciting opportunity for you to join their ambitious IT family on their latest extraction and migration project of one of their legacy systems. Their current code is Mainframe Assembler, and the expected migration language will be COBOL.

For this project to be successful, they require multiple Mainframe resources to join their team in Cape Town on a contract basis.

The roles available are:

• Mainframe Architect with a solid understanding of mainframe technologies, strong database modelling experience and experience with policy administration systems;
• Senior Mainframe Engineer with strong experience in Assembler/COBOL as well as multiple mainframe utilities ( i.e “DATUITP” for the overall conversion framework); and,
• Mainframe Developer with the ability to read Assembler code (Coding skills in Assembler preferred) for COBOL equivalent coding/mapping.

The main outputs of this project include:

• Mapping of Assembler/COBOL data elements
• Decoding/unpacking the framework
• Applying ETL methodology (1day/1week refresh cycle of data)
• Staging data model
• High-level integration landscape with data requirements
• Preliminary product migration assumptions with product termination requirement
