The acceptance lead will be responsible for the overall acceptance / acquiring strategy and delivery for the key countries of South Africa, Mauritius, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Swaziland.
This includes growing overall acceptance revenues (cross-border and domestic); driving sales initiatives for MPGS and Simplify; growing new locations; and footprint enablement through contactless, QR, new merchant segments, opening new acceptance verticals etc;
Role
Own and develop the acceptance strategy, set objectives and lead the delivery of initiatives across the identified countries and customers.
Acquirer / Payment Facilitator business development and partnerships to deliver on strategy and revenues.
Own business opportunities to increase acquiring volume and share as well as develop and implement improvements to related processes.
Support the Customer Relationship Manager with acquirer relationships; build relationships with acquirers at different levels.
Motivate for needed acceptance funding to support key initiatives.
Represent Mastercard at PASA (Payments Association of South Africa) Acquiring Forums and provide thought leadership.
Build an understanding of issues touching the acquirer space, particularly standards / compliance / mandates, interchange, mobile, contactless and ecommerce requirements.
Interpret and assess available MIS, trends and research to identify opportunities for innovation and revenue growth.
Manage MPGS and other gateway product revenues and sales for portfolio.
Grow acquiring revenue through partnerships with high XB volume merchants; open new acquiring verticals; leverage new innovation and products; and optimize existing channels (e.g. e-commerce).
All About You
In-depth understanding of the payments industry
Strong sales and business acumen with the ability to develop and maintain high quality relationships with banks, payment facilitators and merchants
Understand business and market dynamics, Mastercard’s acquiring and related product / services specifications and applications, and your customers’ strategies and needs in order to identify opportunities and design tailored solutions which meet the customer’s needs
Provide insightful viewpoints on Mastercard platforms, innovations, products and services, explain to customers how they can leverage Mastercard’s offerings for their own business needs and communicate complex technological concepts with clarity and conviction
Problem-solving skills, with negotiation capabilities and demonstrated sales and influencing skills. Also good presentation and communication skills.
Be able to understand and leverage payments technology and innovation to drive results.
A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent; minimum 7 years’ experience in payments / consulting / business development
