Purpose Statement
To recommend strategic changes to credit policy so that retail credit portfolios are operating at their optimal by ensuring the bank stays on bad debt risk appetite.
To determine how bad debts are performing against budgets/forecasts and pricing targets, and to monitor actual bad debts against pricing target to ensure alignment with risk appetite.
To enable clarity and understanding of bad debt matters within the Retail Credit Team, the Executive and Board
Promote efficiency and clarity by:
reporting on the impact of bad debts (including recoveries) on credit portfolio profit in a clear and reconciled manner;
establishing a shared language, way of work and shared tools, across departments involved in bad debt management and reporting.
Experience
Minimum:
Proven track record on SQL, SAS, R or Python
At least 7 years’ proven experience in Credit within the financial services / retail banking industry
At least 3 years’ experience in bad debt provisions or collections, pricing and profitability measurement as well as related systems, processes and procedures
Experience in:
Drafting business plans, presenting and finalising strategies
Business analysis: Design and implementation of processes and procedures
Ideal:
At least 5 – 6 years’ experience in bad debt provisions or collections, pricing and profitability measurement as well as related systems, processes and procedures in retail banking
Experience in Capitec
Qualifications (Minimum)
A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting - Management Accounting or Mathematics
Qualifications (Ideal or Preferred)
Masters Degree in Accounting - Management Accounting or Mathematics
Knowledge
Minimum:
Credit statistics
Business Analytics
Understanding of accounting, budgeting, pricing and provisioning principles in a bank
Income statement and balance sheet accounting transactions of a bank
Project management principles and methodologies (able to maintain continuity on multiple projects, time management, planning and organisational skills)
Financial systems & procedures
Regulations pertaining to credit management
Credit management systems
Unsecured credit, including credit facilities and credit cards
Ideal:
In depth knowledge of Capitec’s Credit Policy
General understanding of the Banks Act Capital Regulations, National Credit Act and the implication for Capitec business and the Credit Bureau
Strong credit industry knowledge
Business analysis experience on a banking system
Analytical experience on credit portfolio
Bank governance experience (ALCO, Risk Committee, Credit Committee, etc)
Book management – soft and hard collections and pay date management
Payment systems (Authenticated Collections, Debit Order and Non-Authenticated Early Debit Order)
