    Manager Operations UG

    Job Purpose:

    • To manage the Mining Operations' disciplines, systems and processes in order to achieve operational objectives in a safe and efficient manner and in line with legislative requirements

    Minimum Required Qualification:

    • Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competencey.

    The Appointee should:

    • At least 7 years’ experience in a related role, of which 3 years should have been at a management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
    • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
    • Clear security screening record.

    Advantageous Qualifications:

    • NQF 7 (Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma) in Mining Engineering

    Additional Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).

    Key Responsibilities:

    • To lead Sibanye Stillwater’s purpose, vision, and values across the Century Mine operating site. To oversee the Mining Operations' disciplines, systems, and processes, ensuring the attainment of operational objectives with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and compliance with legislative requirements.
    • Lead and manage Mining Operations teams, systems, and processes, while remaining current with the latest systems, processes, and best practices, and providing relevant recommendations.
    • Analyze and interpret data and reports from Mining Operations, taking corrective actions as needed, and offering effective problem-solving support to the teams.
    • Ensure availability of all necessary resources for Mining Operations, including personnel, equipment, and materials, and oversee the operations schedule.
    • Report pertinent operations-related information.
    • Prioritize Century Mine's safety, health, and wellbeing for employees, partners, and contractors.
    • Implement and maintain systems to comply with the company's SHEC policy, regulatory safety, and environmental standards.
    • Engage actively with stakeholders such as Mines Department, DES, Landowners, Traditional owners, neighboring mines, and employees.
    • Develop and enable people leadership capabilities, fostering cultural diversity and inclusivity.
    • Ensure compliance and optimize the operating budget, both in terms of physicals and costs.
    • Plan and execute major projects, ensuring CEA (Cultural, Environmental, and Administrative) compliance.
    • Support the development and execution of Century Mine's Life of Asset Strategy.
    • Uphold ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) compliance and contribute to environmental rehabilitation efforts.
    • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and cross-functionally.
    • Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
    • Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers.
    • Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
    • Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes.
    • Managing the finances of the Division to achieve Organisational objectives.
    • Setting and approving budgeting parameters for the Division in line with business requirements and financial objectives.
    • Approving operational expenditure.
    • Formulating monthly and annual budgets.
    • Leading and driving cost saving and cash conservation initiatives.
    • Remaining competitive on the global cost curve for surface operations.
    • Approve operational expenditure.
    • Manage expenditure against the budget.
    • Report on variances from the budget and the reasons for those variances.
    • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the budget.
    • Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.
    • Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.
    • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
    • Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department.
    • Participate in regional/local bodies and decision-making forums in the process developing a business relevant external environment, that will result in the longer-term sustainability of the Division.
    • Design the specific Operations’ discipline structure to support the achievement of the organisational mandate.
    • Review and approve labour plans around operational targets.

    • Manage performance and development of reporting staff.
    • Set the specific Operations’ discipline performance targets and criteria that align with organisational goals for the team.
    • Drive the Organisational Culture and Climate within the Business Unit to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and employee safety.
    • Drive a culture of Learning and Continuous Improvement within the specific Operation to ensure achievement of organisational objectives and safety.
    • Mentor individuals to enhance the individual`s knowledge, skills, values and attitude.
    • Create opportunities for development through participation and involvement in new business or technology enhancement projects for team members.
    • Provide coaching to team members on an ongoing basis.
    • Drive a culture of Transformation within the specific Operation to ensure organisational sustainability.
    • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment.
    • Focus on sustainability targets that will require operational ramp up according to plan.
