Producing, maintaining, and taking responsibility for mechanical engineering deliverables within a highly variable project environment, including:
Equipment and vessel design utilizing finite element analysis and application of relevant codes and standards;
Pump and piping system design and stress analysis;
Equipment technical specifications, lists and detailed datasheets;
Undertake site investigations and technical audits;
Oversight, collaboration and interaction on the 3D modelling and design manipulation of equipment drawings, plant layouts and general arrangement drawings with design draftspersons;
Input to process flow diagrams and P&IDs;
Produce, review and analyse piping drawings and isometrics;
Produce tender enquiry documents and adjudication reports;
Lead and contribute to techno-commercial feasibility study assessments;
Undertake construction management and quality control roles where required, including equipment and pumping systems commissioning and collation of OEM documentation; and
Conduct effective Root Cause Analysis.
Effective contribution to multi-disciplinary engineering project teams;
Interfacing directly with Clients, mentors, project managers, discipline engineers and design draughts persons;
Contribute to the development of innovative and high-quality designs and deliverables using progressive technologies and BIM workflows; and
Effectively interfacing with Clients and stakeholders throughout the project life-cycle.
Key requirements:
A BSc. Eng. or B.Eng. (Mechanical) qualification;
Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA;
At least 8 years of appropriate experience in the sugar or related heavy process plant industry (previous experience in a consulting environment will be an added advantage);
A thorough understanding of engineering projects and a broad understanding of the other engineering disciplines, i.e. Process, Civil, Structural, Instrumentation and Electrical;
A thorough understanding of applicable standards and codes within the mechanical engineering environment;
A keen interest in technology and continuous improvement;
Relevant practical engineering experience;
Effective computer skills e.g. Microsoft Office, piping and mechanical equipment design packages including Plant 3D Inventor as well as FEA and CFD software (preferable);
Must be able to demonstrate interaction with plant personnel at all levels;
Experience in and have a key affinity for working within a Building information models (BIM) environment;
Experience in equipment, product storage, and piping system designs (preferable);
Must be an honest and effective communicator;
Must be a self-starter capable of managing deliverables against strict deadlines;
Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills;
Must be prepared to travel within and outside RSA borders.
