    Mechanical Engineer: Robotics

    About The Job

    The CSIR has a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineer in the Industrial Robotics research group within the Centre for Robotics and Future Production, Manufacturing cluster. The incumbent will be responsible for designing, developing and integrating mechanical aspects of mechatronic projects where electronic, electrical and mechanical systems interact. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop mechanical designs for different projects;
    • Develop, design, build, test, and inspect mechanical devices and systems, such as machines, tools, and appliances;
    • Be part of project team that delivers results on brief on budget and on time;
    • Raise personal, team and institutional profiles through publishing original research and presenting work at national and international conferences and workshops;
    • Interact with peers within fields of expertise both within and outside the CSIR to generate new knowledge;
    • Supervise int erns and vacation students;
    • Stay abreast in field of expertise with respect to new approaches in tools, methods or technologies.

    Key Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineering with at least three years of experience in mechanical or mechatronic design, development and integration;
    • During the above years of experience there should be evidence of experience in mechanical CAD (NX, SolidEdge, SolidWorks);
    • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
    • The incumbent must have hands-on workshop skills and NC Lathe/Mill experience;
    • Demonstrated skills in analytical thinking, flexibility and adaptability, planning and organising, problem solving, good verbal and written communication, research and report writing, teamwork, industry skills, self-management (planning, prioritising and time management – includes the ability to work independently), systems level thinking, multi-disciplinary knowledge.

    Shortlisted candidates will be requested to provide a portfolio of work, to be discussed in Interviews.
