    Mechanical Technologist

    Job Description:
    As our Mechanical Technologistyour responsibilities will include but not limited to:

    • Safety, Health, and Environment
    • Consistently apply safety and health principles in all site interactions within and beyond own area of work
    • Identify specific risks within the working area and adhere to discipline-specific plans/systems to avoid these risks.
    • Participate in relevant safety audits, inspections and observations and address issues to demonstrate safety leadership.
    • Promote good housekeeping to ensure compliance and an environment where employees can deliver their outputs within a controlled risk environment.
    • Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.
    • Performance and Delivery
    • Asset Integrity & Performance Risks:
    • Proactively manage asset integrity and performance risks, identify potential issues, and implement practical solutions.
    • Business Performance Targets:
    • Conduct weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reviews, reporting findings to the relevant managers.
    • Investigate or assign root cause analysis (RCA) to determine the causes of non-compliance in business performance targets and implement action plans for overcoming issues.
    • Create realistic forecasts based on continuous improvement, ensuring visibility of targets to the team.
    • Equipment Maintenance (Support):
    • Maintain equipment, machines, processes, and tools to ensure maximum availability and achieve quality standards.
    • The Work: Key Outputs and Accountabilities
    • Plan, implement, and manage maintenance schedules with consideration for production targets, minimising production interruptions.
    • Identify improvement opportunities, implement feasible changes, and maintain new performance standards.
    • Ensure compliance with system and administrative requirements, reporting accordingly.
    • Daily, Weekly, Monthly Task Execution:
    • Daily Tasks:
    • Report daily schedule progress, previous day's performance, risks, and urgent work.
    • Review daily output, schedule, and task compliance.
    • Communicate management instructions, address safety and plant deviations, and approve/cancel SAP notifications within 24 hours.
    • Monitor daily schedule compliance, escalating risks per procedures.
    • Maintain daily communication with subordinates, ensuring timely return of completed work orders and providing feedback on execution performance.
    • Weekly Tasks:
    • Address weekly schedule compliance and deviations.
    • Sign off on work orders, hand them over to the Supervisor following Operating Model procedures and participate in formal weekly schedule review meetings.
    • Report risks and deviations, monitor cost control in the Task Status Report (TSR), and review work order planning.
    • Monthly Tasks:
    • Ensure thorough pre-planning, following procedures, and addressing safety, health, and managerial instructions.
    • Conduct contractors' meetings for those working in the section.
    • Support standards committee procedures and revisions and keep training and induction needs current.
    • Review KPIs and Routine Operating Schedule, monitor month-end cost expenditure, and perform monthly compliance comparisons for improvement.
    • Compliance:
    • Comply with all the Anglo American E&M Framework requirements and best practice guidelines.
    • This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band 6.10 level reporting to the Specialist Reliability & Asset Health Monitoring

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, on NQF6
    • SA Drivers Licence

    Technical Knowledge

    • Understand Mechanical Maintenance, Reliability, and Diagnostics principles with 3-5 years of experience.
    • Familiarity with global automation concepts (Advantageous).
    • Knowledge of global and mining equipment automation.
    • Awareness of key value drivers within the discipline's value chain and interdependence of critical levers.
    • Familiarity with classifying operational processes according to the Operating Model, focusing on Work Management.
    • Knowledge of new technologies and their impact on operational activities within the scope of the role.
    • Awareness of business improvement tools and techniques.
    • Understand business acumen and commercial drivers of site performance.
    • Knowledge of basic financial metrics & budgeting tools.
    • Familiarity with risk management techniques and critical controls.
    • Understand project management fundamentals.
    • Awareness of safety, health and environment, legislative, statutory, and regulatory requirements, specifically the MHSA.
