    Mechatronic Technician

    About The Job

    • The CSIR has a vacancy for a Mechatronic Technologist in the Transport Infrastructure Engineering impact area, within the Smart Mobility cluster. The incumbent will provide technical assistance through installation, maintenance, improvement and repairing of equipment. This position is based in Pretoria.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Collect data, process the data and put the data in a format that can be used directly into reports or presentations;
    • Maintain instrumentation for HVS and other testing equipment;
    • Write macros for data analysis;
    • Calibrate equipment, site setup, laboratory testing of road materials, data capturing and processing data;
    • Conduct field work - , MDD installations, road tests pits, sampling and data acquisition of various instruments (Eg. MDD’s, RSD, Strata gauge, LWD, thermocouples, rut measurement and visual assessments).
    • Processing of all data collected – Excel macros, and Graphs to submit final reports to researchers.

    Qualifications, Skills And Experience

    • A National Diploma in mechanical/electronic engineering or related field with at least five years’ experience in mechatronics, data collection and development and installation of test equipment;
    • Solid track record of:
      • Test equipment use and maintenance;
      • Data acquisition and processing;;
      • Manufacture prototype equipment the required specifications, precision and quality ;
    • Ability to understand, integrate, and provide technical leadership across all domains;
    • Ability to provide leadership and high level of precision;
    • Ability to work independently as well as in teams;
    • Interpersonal communication skills;
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills;
    • Project management skills;
    • Excellent people management skills;
    • Conflict management skills;
    • Decisiveness and action orientation.
