Position Overview
The Medical Coder II is responsible for the medical coding of terms collected for a clinical trial. S/he works closely with the Clinical Data Management, Project Management, Clinical Operations and Safety Surveillance teams and study sponsor to ensure that medical logic and consistency are maintained throughout the collection of data for the clinical trial.

Specific Tasks Would Include

• Performs coding of medical terms (e.g. adverse events, medical history, procedures, concomitant medications) relative to each other in order to ensure medical logic and consistency.
• Performs quality control (QC) review of coded data to ensure appropriate and consistent coding.
• Writes and resolves queries related to data requiring coding.
• Ensures medical issues relative to the clinical database are addressed.
• Responds to the needs of the other members of the study team.
• Updates the coding of clinical data when necessary.
• Produces reports required during the course of the study.
• May provide clinical review of data listings or patient profiles to ensure medical logic, consistency, and adherence to protocol specifications.

Qualifications

• A nursing license/degree (LVN, RN, BSN), related license, or clinical experience desired; 2+ years medical coding experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of GCPs, ICH guidelines, FDA and other applicable country regulations.
• Conversant in medical terminology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook.
• The ability to learn basic database software programs.
• Effective verbal and writing skills; English + local language, if relevant.
