Requirements :
MBChB. Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Registration with the HPCSA as an independent medical practitioner. Rotation in a Psychiatry unit a Medical Officer for 6 months and Diploma in mental health will serve as an added advantages.
Duties :
Patient Care: Offer comprehensive medical care to Psychiatry patients. Deal with referrals and transfers from level 1, 2 and 3 facilities from the Hospital drainage Area. Daily ward rounds in the Psychiatry wards, level 1 (problems) and daily inpatient and outpatient care. See consultations from other departments.
Writing meticulous discharge summaries for all patients. Run Psychiatry patient and sub-specialty clinics. Up-referral of properly worked-up, appropriate patients to sub-specialties.
Down-referral of all stable patients to level 1 clinics B. Teaching: Formal training of Junior Medical Officers, Psychiatry Students and allied health workers. Mentorship of Staff (Junior Medical Officers, Nurses) in the Psychiatric Wards and Clinics and from facilities that refer to DGM Hospital 3. Outreaches Level 2 and 3 Hospitals.
