Medical Specialist Psychiatrist Grade 1/2/3 Academic Level Lecturer/Senior Lecturer
M MED (PSYCH) or FCPSYCH(SA) or equivalent. Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist Psychiatrist is mandatory. Relevant experience in general adult Psychiatry. Scientific conference participation and / or scientific article publication in an accredited journal.
RECOMMENDATIONS -
Teaching experience in an academic or hospital setting. An interest to further studies in psychiatry sub-specialities and/or relevant postgraduate/doctoral degree studies will be recommended.
Duties :
The post is a joint appointment specialist psychiatrist post with Weskoppies Hospital/Gauteng and the School of Medicine of the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Pretoria. The main tasks of the post will be the management and treatment of general adult psychiatric patients, including the related administrative and medico-legal work. Doing criminal forensic psychiatric observations and testifying in a court of law will also be included, if needed. Successful candidates will be expected to be involved in training and teaching of undergraduate, postgraduate students, medical officers and other health care workers. Doing research and supervising research are part of the duties, also. Duties will also include general management and administration appropriate to the post, including involvement in hospital and university related committees.
