    Milk Planning & Logistics Manager

    Manage Danone Southern Africa milk collection, receiving, diverting, balancing & disposal. The milk logistics manager will be the key communication link between the Producer Relations Manager, Supply Chain Planning, Quality, Industrial & Finance to, ensure that the flow of milk is managed in an efficient and cost effective manner, and ensure the milk data is sufficiently captured to according to the Internal Control Policies and Procedures.
    Key Areas of Responsibility
    Milk Supply Planning

    • Interpret the milk producer’s supply forecast and provide a delivery schedule to factory production planning & operations
    • Work closely with milk planning on daily, weekly, monthly and annual demand requirements
    • Monitor the gaps between the milk supply forecast and demand forecast
    • Monitor and track monthly milk supply forecast accuracy, milk demand changes.
    • Interpret milk planning horizons - Monthly, Weekly & Daily. Communicate multiple horizon scenarios to enable internal decision making and supply forecasts strategy
    • Monitor and analyze milk demand and milk supply planning KPIs and identify potential areas of improvement
    • Ensure accuracy and timely information provided to Supply Chain prior to GPS meeting

    Milk Supply Balancing

    • Understand the impact of production breakdowns and milk demand changes on the upstream supply of milk (i.e. inbound supply by producers/suppliers, factory SOH and envisaged consumption rate).
    • Gain understanding and intelligence regarding the Milk Spot market
    • Balance the milk daily intake with corrective action plans to facilitate minimal disruption to the Spot Market, Suppliers Storage, Logistics Turnaround Times, Factories Milk Demand and Cream Demand, Finished Product Stock)
    • Reconcile milk totals (Co-Packer, Diverted Loads, Drying and other Service Providers)

    Milk Supply Operations

    • Manage the operation impact of the different functions have on each other 3PL’s, Industrial, Planning, Producers, Quality and Finance
    • Monitor, Manage and report on the Logistic Service Providers adherence to best practice and performance Ensure the On Time arrival of milk collections at dairy farms by transport service providers; Conduct Monthly Milk Transport Meetings; Accountable for the identification of logistics costs and implementation of logistics productivity plan projects
    • Provide the required raw milk at the required standard and at the required time
    • Oversee the Internal Control Process compliance of data capturing into the milk portal and the accuracy of the milk invoicing process
    • Oversee the Operational management of the Milk Logistics Service Providers and Service Level Agreements, including efficient conflict resolution in disputes
    • Assess and escalate to the relevant departments the
    • Availability of resources to meet all the stipulated key performance indicators (Industrial, Quality, Finance, Planning)
    • Performance of bulk delivery measuring equipment (i.e. weight bridge, flow meter, etc.)
    • Sound sample management (adherence to sample methodology, timeous analysis, interpretation and recording of results)
    • Standing time of milk tankers at the Boksburg site
    • Adherence to quality standards, procedures, policies and practices
    • Delivery of the required liters/tons of milk within the required quality standards, holding Industrial and Quality accountable to compliance to the QA criteria & completion of QA documentation
    • Manage milk disposal according to the policy, procedure and protocol
    • Assess that the correct flow of information between Milk Receiving, Processing, Finance and the Quality department s on time and adequately processed
    • Facilitate monthly meetings with Quality and Industrial to review supplier results and efficient interaction between departments
    • Drive section safety agenda and audits with Transporters

    Qualification

    • B Degree, (Logistics or Industrial Engineering)

    Work Experience

    • 5 - 10 years’ experience within a FMCG environment, two years leadership experience, and having delivered tangible results.
    • Min 6 Years of purchasing / procurement experience, ideally in an FMCG environment.
    • Alternative background in Finance / Industrial / SC could also be considered if strong project management experience, and the right skills / personality
    • Proficient in MS Office Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • Commercial acumen, and proven ability to maintain tight budget controls
    • Proven ability to manage cross-functional projects
    • Delivering trough others
    • Advanced communication skills (written, oral and listening)
    • Internal and external customer service skills
    • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships
