Network Build: Senior Transmission Engineer at RAIN

Reporting into the Head of Network Build, the Senior Transmission Engineer is responsible to manage and operate the transmission domain within the rain network.

The Senior Transmission Engineer will assume accountability and ownership for the successful management of various cross departmental transmission project implementations, planning, testing and evaluation activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Managing - Transmission Environment

• Experience and expertise in high-speed optical transmission – Huawei
• Expertise in DWDM system design, architecture, and troubleshooting
• Practical experience in development and modelling of link engineering rules and optical network characteristics
• Familiarity with Huawei optical products and centralized management systems
• Experience with optical transmission test equipment including Optical Spectrum Analysers, Bit Error Rate test sets, optical power meters, and high-speed scopes
• Familiarity with test automation and scripting software including Python
• Familiarity with optical simulation tools
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Able to perform well and multi-task in a team environment
• Willing and eager to do hands-on lab work
• Self-motivated with a flexible, positive, and creative attitude
• Careful and thorough, with meticulous attention to detail requirement to lead a team
• L2/l3 switching/routing environments
• Dynamic routing protocols

Operating - Transmission Domain

• Planning and execution of DWDM transmission tests
• Development and modelling of link engineering rules
• Analyse results and perform experimental transmission tests that drive Architecture and System Engineering decisions
• Setup and maintenance of an optical test bed
• Service quality testing protocols Y and G standards
• Analysing TWAMP data for SLA monitoring
• Documentation of test results
• Presenting and articulating results to customers and colleagues
• Occasional domestic and international travel may be required
• Collaboration involvement with day-to-day activities

 Qualification/s:

• 3 Years’ experience as a Transmission Engineer
• Experience in transmission networks
• 3 years general telecommunications networking background
• Relevant Engineering Diploma / Degree
• Huawei certification (advantageous)
