New Venture Support Specialist - 3 Year Contract at Rhodes University

Main Objectives

• The New Venture Support Specialist is responsible for guiding and facilitating the successful formation, development, and growth of spin-out companies and start-ups arising from Rhodes University’s intellectual property and research outputs.
• The role provides strategic advice on business models, financial planning, market positioning, and regulatory compliance, while connecting entrepreneurs with investors, mentors, and resources.
• Working closely with researchers, industry partners, and the Technology Transfer team, the Specialist ensures that new ventures are equipped to achieve commercial sustainability and contribute to innovation-driven economic and societal impact.

The Requirements

A B-degree (NQF level 7) in Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, or a related field, and approximately 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -  

• Understanding of scientific or technical research environments would be an added
• Proven experience in supporting start-ups, spinouts, or new venture formation, ideally in a university or innovation ecosystem context.
• Track record of engaging with investors, funding bodies, business development, and entrepreneurial networks.
